What is Big Data ?

Big data is a buzzword which is uses by everyone. I am sure that you heard about this word at least once. Actually Big data is huge field that includes a lot of BI technologies. But don’t worry we explain to you as much as we can. On the other hand, this field still growing and many things changes. So there is no absolute define about big data. But, simply we can define the big data as all data which is generated by human. Yes you generates the big data. But how ?

Generating data began to increase because of digitalization. You or us uses internet to shopping or to search something. We click on some web sites and so on. Also the CCTV , smartphone , social media some sensors , all these generates data. It can be a tweet, or a search on google., etc. Shortly any acts on the internet area is avaliable for data.

Characteristics of Big Data

Big data is commonly characterized using a number of “V” s. Some resources add to this list other “V”s but most commonly its defined as five “V” s. Let’s look at its quickly

Volume : Volume is refer to vast amount of data in other word size of the data.

Velocity : Velocity is speed at which data is being generated. Such as, speed of creating data, speed of storing data , speed of analyzing data. Remember that big data is cruical when its analyzed in real time

Verocity : Verocity is refer to quality of data. Such as accuracy of data, Reliability of the data source and context within analysis.

Valence : Valence basically is connectedness. It is related to data connectivity.( data connectivity : two data items are connected when they are related to each other). But you will faced a few challenges about valence:

  • More complex data exploration algorithms
  • Modeling and prediction is hard
  • Emergent behaviour anaysis

Variety : Variety is refer to different forms of data. Data can be as a CSV, SHEET,PDF,JSON, VISUAL DATA…

Value : No doubt without value these are useless. The most important “V”is Value. Processing big data must bring about value from insights gained.

As we sad, big data is huge field and its is hard do understand . I have great free internet resources to understand more effectively.
